Update On Small Groups

I recently attended a small group ministries conference. The small group ministry has been around since Jesus walked this earth, but has only recently become the leading edge of church growth again in the last twenty years or so. ANY church that is growing today can attribute most of that growth to the ministry of small groups.

In our fellowship we have several small groups functioning on a weekly basis. We have discovered the intimacy, spiritual dynamic, and support found in small groups to be very appealing. In fact, since we started Financial Peace University and had to suspend two of the groups until FPU is completed, the members have expressed a strong sense of missing their groups!

My personal goal is for many of the members of these small groups to form their own small groups composed of friends and neighbors in their neighborhood. This is where the real outreach takes place, where getting to know your neighbors, having a strong desire to become their friend, and building a bridge for them to discover Christ Jesus is most effective.

At the conference I attended the question was put to us: “When was the last time someone joined your church on profession of faith who did not come from another church community?” In church? In Sunday School? If we insist on continuing doing the things we have always done, we will continue to receive the same results. I want my life to count for Jesus. I want my ministry to produce results for the kingdom of God. Pray with me that this ministry will catch on in our fellowship. To the glory of God.
